Working with the Creative Person

With an extensive background in the arts and knowledge of the creative personality, I understand the unique qualities and struggles of the artist. I can assist you in learning how to better integrate conflicting traits and emotions, which often lead to self-blame, judgment and procrastination. By learning to embrace all aspects of the creative personality, we move towards self-acceptance and compassion for your self as an artist.

I have had the pleasure of working with writers, musicians, actors and artists. In my approach, coupled with traditional “talk therapy,” I incorporate various techniques such as art therapy, role-play, journaling, guided visualization and mindfulness meditation.

I assist individuals in gaining a self-awareness and deeper understanding of themselves as artists or performers. In therapy I take in consideration aspects of the artists such as the need for individuality, non-linear thinking, high-sensitivity, being multi-facet and resistant to conformity.

I believe a high sensitivity, essential in the creative process, can co-exist in dealing effectively with inner conflicts, without suppressing the vitality that leads to authentic self-expression. I can assist the artist in discovering that they can be both productive and creative within a balanced life.

Experiencing Life Intensely – High Sensitivity and Creativity

Many artists or performers experience life in a unique way that sets them apart from the average person. Because of their high perceptiveness and ability to take in the details of their environment, the artist can be prone to high sensitivity and easily over whelmed. Experiencing the world through thinner filters can also affect experiencing emotions intensely and can also have an affect on how they interact with others. This can leave the creative individual more susceptible to depression or anxiety.

I help the creative person learn the skills to better manage the very gift that has given their art depth and meaning. By better understanding high sensitivity you no longer view it as a negative trait, instead as a creative source to channel in your work. Through awareness and mindfulness, I will teach you how to sit with the feelings versus reacting to them in destructive ways.
