The Art of Mind

Empowering Creative Professionals for Success

About Lisa

As long as I can remember, I’ve always had a creative streak. Whether it was through dance, writing, photography, art and my love for music, I had an inherent drive towards creative expression.

So, it wasn’t a surprise when I ended up attending
Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where I learned how to productively focus my creativity.

After graduating I entered the corporate arena as a graphic designer where I worked with clients like Toyota, Nestle, Disney, Citibank, Kaiser Permanente, and Nissan to name a few.

Despite learning a lot in an agency environment, I had a yearning to be my own boss. So eventually I branched off and ran my own business as a creative entrepreneur.

This path of course taught me some hard but valuable lessons. Although working independently was rewarding, I discovered the importance of balancing both the creative and business aspects of running your own business.

A calling to understand the creative person and myself.

I was fortunate to have worked on a variety of projects that challenged my design abilities, but like many creative professionals, I hit a wall in my career. I found myself bored and uninspired with the work.

I was yearning for something more meaningful, so I decided to go back to school and pursue one of my original passions…psychology.

I always had a sense that the creative person processed and interacted with the world in a unique way. As an attempt to understand myself, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges that creative individuals commonly face both personally and professionally.

After completing my Masters in Psychology I worked as a therapist, helping individuals reconnect with their own strengths and wisdom, in order to discover their own answers for their life.

Because of my own creative background my practice primarily attracted creative professionals and artists. Working with the creative person was extremely rewarding for me.

I began to discover a common thread…
our creativity hungers for new challenges.

From my experience working with creative individuals, I began to discover a common thread.

In order to maintain balance, fulfillment and well-being, ongoing creative expression is essential to the creative person. It is vital to their sense of wholeness like air, food or water.

Creating mediocre work or feeling creatively uninspired and bored kills our motivation to create. Our creativity hungers for new challenges and absolute expression.

The old idea that artists seek out a muse to ignite creative juices has some truth to it. We want to feel alive. We want to be pulled out of bed in the morning by something that inspires us to create.

From Therapist to Coach, offering my clients
a more goal-oriented approach.

Although I enjoyed working therapeutically, I found myself wanting to offer my clients a more goal-oriented approach to making their vision a reality.

Instead of spending countless hours on the past, I wanted to help them focus on their potential to achieving their goals. So, I began offering Creativity Coaching services. (Read more on “Coaching is not Therapy”)

I joined the Creativity Coaching Association where I had the opportunity to study and train under established Creativity Coaches Beverly Down and Eric Maisel.

I continue to create.

I continue to express my creativity through mix media, writing and photography. I have found immersing myself in my own creative process continues to uncover new insights, which inspires me to share with others. I can honestly say I practice first hand the very things I teach.
